ClearSilk Laser Treatment Explained
ClearSilk is a non-invasive laser treatment that uses laser energy to rejuvenate the skin. ClearSilk is safe for all skin types and can be used year-round. It’s a quick procedure with no downtime, so patients can resume their daily activities immediately after treatment.
How does ClearSilk Laser Treatment work?
ClearSilk uses a 1064nm Nd:YAG laser to heat the skin and stimulate collagen production. This process increases oxygen to the cells and encourages the body’s natural repair process. During treatment, ClearSilk deposits heat deep beneath the skin’s surface-stimulating fibroblast activity and the body’s natural repair process for a healthier, more vibrant complexion.

How many treatments will I need?
For patients to get the best results, it is generally recommended that patients receive, on average, 3–6 treatments scheduled four weeks apart. Every ClearSilk treatment builds upon the previous one, allowing the skin to react gradually, therefore it is important to do a series of treatments for best results.
How should I prepare for the treatment?
- It is imperative to protect the treated skin from the sun for a full 2-4 weeks prior to laser skin treatments as well as 4 weeks after. We recommend the use of a physical sunscreen of at least 30 SPF (preferably containing titanium dioxide or zinc oxide).
- Artificial tanners must be stopped 2 weeks before your treatment on your face and 3 weeks before any body treatments.
- Avoid blood-thinning medications or supplements for at least a week before your treatment, including aspirin, ibuprofen, and fish oil. Using aspirin or ibuprofen during the week before treatment may lead to increased redness or bruising and failure for redness and capillaries to resolve with treatment. If you are using aspirin under the direction of another medical provider, please discuss with him/her prior to stopping medication.
- Do not use retinol, Retin A (tretinoin), adapalene, retinoic acid, or glycolic acid products 5 days before treatment.
- Avoid any chemical peels for 2 weeks prior to treatment.
- If you are prone to cold sores, let your provider know and they will call in a medication to prevent a new onset of cold sores after treatment.
- If anything changes in your medical history, please alert your provider prior to your scheduled appointment.
What should I expect the day of treatment?
- Photos will be taken so that your progress can be documented.
- Skin will be cleansed and eye shields will be applied.
- You will not need gel, anesthetic cream or ice prior to treatment.
- Depending on the size of the area being treated, the procedure usually takes about 30 minutes.
- Patients often describe the treatment as relaxing and therapeutic. You will experience a gentle warming of your skin during the procedure as the laser handpiece is moved back and forth above your skin.
What should I expect post treatment?
- Skin may appear red and swollen and have a mild sunburn sensation. This is a normal reaction. It can last from a few hours to days after treatment. Applying a cold compress or ice pack will help minimize swelling. This is typically only needed within the first 12 hours after the treatment.
- If desired, make-up may usually be applied immediately after the treatment.
- If in the middle of a series of treatments, sun exposure should be avoided between treatments and a sunblock with a protection factor of 30+ should be used on a daily basis.
- Subsequent treatments are based upon your clinician’s recommendation and are typically 2-4 weeks apart.
- In the rare event of broken skin or blistering, contact the office immediately. Keep the affected area moist and avoid direct sunlight.
